Subject: Proposal for mandatory labelling of AI-generated content
Dear Member of the European Parliament,
As a concerned European citizen, I am writing to you about an initiative to make the identification of AI-generated content mandatory across the EU.
The ProvenanceMedIA proposal calls for:
• A standardised visual symbol on all AI-generated content
• Verifiable, cryptographically signed provenance metadata embedded in the file at the source
• A legal obligation for platforms to display and preserve these markers
• Sanctions for deceptive distribution
This proportionate, technically grounded approach does not restrict AI creation — it simply requires transparency about the origin of content. Provenance standards already exist (including C2PA, voluntarily adopted by several major players), but a European legal obligation cannot rely on a standard governed exclusively by private actors. We call for an open, auditable and sovereign framework, which can be integrated into the AI Act or a complementary instrument.
I respectfully ask you to consider supporting or championing this proposal in the European Parliament.
