Technical standards
C2PA — Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity
Content Credentials — Adobe / CAI
SynthID — Google DeepMind
Meta Video Seal
IPTC Photo Metadata Standard
W3C Verifiable Credentials
NIST AI 100-4 — Reducing Risks Posed by Synthetic Content
AI Act — European AI Regulation
These standards coexist and none alone meets all the requirements of a European legal obligation. C2PA is currently the most widely adopted, but its governance remains dominated by major American tech companies. ProvenanceMedIA calls for the chosen standard to be open, auditable and neutrally governed — whether that means an improved C2PA, an existing ISO/W3C standard, or a sovereign European framework yet to be built.
